Get to Know: NicolePublished March 10, 2017 by Eva Tanenbaum in All Things Dance, Fun & Fashionable, Wishful Thinking
At A Wish Come True our coworkers and our customers feel like family. So we thought it was time for you to get to know our family.
Get to know Nicole! She’s a total Star Wars and Lord of the Rings nerd who loves tattoos but is still a sweet Jersey girl at heart.
What’s your job title? Describe what you do.
I am a pattern maker. I work on all sorts of patterns whether it be for dance or guard; catalog to custom. I also design for ‘Wish’ in my free time. I had over 20 catalog styles in the 2017 book.
What’s the most fun part of your job/day?
I love solving problems as odd as it sounds. I love the challenge of figuring out how to resolve quirky issues with fabric or new silhouettes.
Tell us a fun or funny memory from working at ‘Wish’.
It’s always a good time testing out sample prototypes for custom accessories from octopus hats to batman masks. I’m a great head model!
Did you dance as a kid? Do you still dance?
I did! I danced for about 10 years when I was little. I quit when I told my mom that the costumes weren’t cool enough. Guess it was destiny!
Where and for what did you go to school for?
I studied fashion design at the Art Institute of Philadelphia.
Did you have a different job before ‘Wish’?
The last job I had before ‘Wish’ was tutoring my peers at the sewing labs in college. I got to help students problem solve and put my personal input into their design choices. 😉
What did you want to be when you grew up?
Ever since I could pick up a crayon I’ve been dreaming up dresses! At a more sophisticated age of 12 I wanted to design dreamy wedding dresses.
What are a few of your favorite things?
Well I couldn’t live without my coffee, that’s for sure. I also love anything down the home decor isle of Target, aka my whole apartment.
What’s your spirit animal?
Probably a doe, coming from the Pinelands I feel really connected to deer.
Who are your favorite artists?
My favorite artists are bluesy folk singers like The Tallest Man on Earth, Hozier and The Lumineers.
